Heat Treatment
Completion requirements
1. Heat Treatment
Annealing softens metal by heating above the recrystallisation temperature and cooling slowly.
Quenching cools rapidly in water or oil, trapping carbon in a martensite structure.
Safety glasses must be worn in the foundry at all times.
Tempering reduces brittleness after quenching by reheating to between 150 and 650 degrees Celsius.
