Advanced First Aid Guide

1. Defibrillators and Treating Burns

Defibrillators give voice instructions. Turn the unit on, attach the pads to bare skin, and follow the prompts without touching the casualty during analysis.

Burns should be cooled under running water for twenty minutes. Never apply ice, butter, or creams to a burn.

Severe bleeding needs direct pressure with a clean dressing. Raise the injured limb above the heart where possible.
